Dead Sea
The concentration of minerals in the Dead Sea is about 30% in comparison to that of approximately 3% in other bodies of water around the world. There are 25 different minerals to be found in the waters of the Dead Sea, all of which are inorganic, meaning they don’t contain hydrogen, carbon or oxygen. Part of these minerals are lypophilic and penetrate the epidermis layer, the important ones are:
All minerals attract and retain moisture from the air, when applied to the skin in the form of skin care applications - the minerals act effectively to hydrate the skin. Additional benefits of Dead Sea Minerals are – stimulation of surface cell renewal, increase of blood circulation, re-balancing of the skin, strengthening cells.
Minerals & the Circulatory System
A very tiny portion of minerals are absorbed through the blood vessels walls. Minerals increase nutrients and lymph flow throughout the body. Minerals are activated by our body heat, therefore minerals will keep active within the body for longer period of time in comparison to an organic extracts such as plant extracts.
Once minerals are in the circulatory system, the system becomes highly effective as a traveler for nutrients and the removal of toxins. The increased absorption of nutrients in the cells aids the dismissal and pulling out of toxins, which are then channeled through our lymphatic system and out of the body.
Minerals & Hydration
Every mineral is made up of a molecule hydroscopic (draws the moisture) in its action, this has two effects:
1.
It draws fluid and toxins from the inner body.
2.
It purifies the system at the same time.
Hydration lasts until the body fluid levels are balanced. This correct balance of fluids in the system is known as a State of Homeostasis.
Minerals & the Nervous System
The effect of minerals on the nervous system is divided into three:
1. Minerals have a calming effect on the Sensory nerve endings.
2. They help to strengthen the Myelin Sheath of the nerves and by increasing magnesium into the blood stream additional nourishment is provided to the sheath of the nerve giving better protection.
3. Mineral treatment is an ideal skin treatment for any condition aggravated by stress and nervous disorders such as Eczema, Psoriasis, Nettle rash and Acne Resaca
Minerals & the Ageing process
Minerals work on the body as a whole; they affect the vibration and movement of every cell by absorption of the surrounding fluid in the nucleus increasing nutrients and lymph flow throughout the body.
Minerals affect both the collagen and elastin layers of the skin by stimulating the activity of the cells which utilize digested proteins and other nutrients needed to plump up the collagen layers, while strengthening the elastin support system. This helps the excretion of waste products therefore promoting a youthful skin, which long term will visually delay the ageing process.
Conditions affected by Mineral Therapy
Mineral therapy is positive for all, because the fear of skin reaction does not exist.
Our bodies have a natural affinity with minerals.
Cells contain different minerals that enable us to function at our best. As well as maintaining a good skin care discipline, minerals will also help people who suffer with torrid skin conditions such as Acne Resaca, Psoriasis, Eczema, forms of Hyperemia, Shingles, Herpes Simplex and for the body, arthritic or inflammatory conditions, Sciatica and muscle fatigue.
The Five Main Minerals
Magnesium -
is necessary to “trigger” various body reactions, and together with calcium and potassium, it plays an important part in maintaining the balance of the cells.
Magnesium is necessary for calcium and Vitamin C metabolism, as well as that of phosphorus, sodium and potassium. Magnesium is a nerve-soother in the physical sense, it is also essential for effective nerve and muscle functioning. It helps converting blood sugar into energy. It is known as the “anti-stress mineral.
Potassium -
is a great water regulator. Our bodies contain a great deal of water, there are about 40 liters in someone weighing 65kg, more then 62% of this water is inside our cells, the rest is outside the cells. Maintaining this balance and the correct composition of the cells fluids is one of the basics of the body activity. A disturbance in the mechanism causes fundamental and serious health problems.
Potassium is the main element in water in the cells, and sodium in the water outside the cells.
These two elements are crucial in the fluid balancing act.
Each time a nerve or a muscle is used - the pressure at the walls of the cells changes and the result is that potassium is in our muscles, an adult contains about 110gr of the element.
A correct potassium balance is vital for nerves to react normally and for muscle to work properly. Potassium also interacts with other elements taking part in such functions as converting glucose to muscle energy, enzyme reactions and the formation of protein. It also plays an important role in the maintenance of the alkali-acid balance of the body.
Iodine -
is unique among the minerals; it is the only one which is an essential ingredient of particular hormones. The thyroid hormones control the body’s whole rate of activity – insufficient hormone production leads to the whole system slowing down. Iodine is closely connected with more than a hundred enzyme systems controlled by the thyroid hormones, including energy production, growth, reproduction, nerve function in muscles, skin and hair growth.
Sulphur -
is found in protein. This element is essential and closely linked to protein.
The element forms an ingredient of several essential protein substances of B Vitamins – Thiamin (B1), Biotin and other compounds inside the body.
Sulphur is needed for our body functions to perform correctly. Sulphur is present in every cell; it’s concentrated in hair, nails and skin.
An adult contains about 110gr of sulphur.
Bromine -
is a natural relaxant. Extensive clinical research was done that proves that bromine passes into the blood streams when applied to the skin.
Once it is in the blood stream it calms and relaxes the nerves. When our bodies’ chemical system is calm, then we appear calm and relaxed on the outside.
When we are suffering from stress our immune system is not as effective and our skin will reflect this fact by eruptions of spots, if we suffer from eczema or psoriasis then the condition will get worse.
Calcium -
is the fifth most abundant element by mass in the human body, where it is a common cellular ionic messenger with many functions, and serves also as a structural element in bone. It is the relatively high atomic-numbered calcium in the skeleton which causes bone to be radio-opaque. Of the human body's solid components after drying (as for example, after cremation), about a third of the total mass is the approximately one kilogram of calcium which composes the average skeleton (the remainder being mostly phosphorus and oxygen).
